HIV/AIDS in Egypt

Things seem to be getting better for people living with HIV/AIDS in Egypt, unlike how it was few years ago. According to a slideshow published by the Egyptian Ministry of Health's National AIDS Program:
- HIV/AIDS prevalence in Egypt remains "low (<0.01%)".
- There are "835 cases" of people living with AIDS in Egypt, by the end of 2005.
- 83% of those infected with AIDS are men, 17% are women.
- A recently-established HIV/AIDS toll-free hotline service is available at 0-800-700-8000.
- Free HIV testing, counseling, and medication are now available.
- National AIDS Program now has support groups where people with AIDS meet and share experiences in different aspects. Support groups are made of 10-15 people each.

I'm sure that in reality those number must be higher. There have got to be crap loads of people that don't know they have HIV/AIDS because they never had reason to get tested.
Although I'm happy to see the help that's becoming available to people. That's fantastic. Now if Egypt can only get around to providing that kind of help to rape/harrassment victims as well...
I'm curious about how Egyptians with HIV/AIDS are being treated socially. Any input?
I'm glad to hear that there are changed being made, but I must wonder, like nn, if those numbers are a bit low. Were they provided by Egypt's ministry of health or the World Health Organisation?

The world has to work together in other to move forward
I know for a fact that these numbers are way higher. I have a couple of friends who are living with HIV/AIDS in Egypt and I've met with the guy in the ministry responsible for HIV (his name is Dr. Ehab Salah) who told me that test they did last year for people wanting to take a Visa for some countries that require blood tests were 200 HIV+ out of a total of 250000 applicants. You do the math and you'll find out how much Egyptians are HIV+

I am sure that the numbers must certainly be higher than the official numbers given by the Health Ministry.
You'll also notice that I put the numbers in quotation marks so that it is understood that these are just the numbers given in the slideshow done by the Health Ministry, which are not neccessarily correct, or in fact obviously not correct at all.
So I am also certain that there is a much higher number of AIDS cases in Egypt.
this is controversial, but it might be cos they deport all the refugee claimants who test positive...
Consider:
The missing element in every human 'solution' is
an accurate definition of the creature.
The way we define 'human' determines our view of self,
others, relationships, institutions, life, and future. Many
problems in human experience are the result of false
and inaccurate definitions of humankind premised
in man-made religions and humanistic philosophies.
Human knowledge is a fraction of the whole universe.
The balance is a vast void of human ignorance. Human
reason cannot fully function in such a void; thus, the
intellect can rise no higher than the criteria by which it
perceives and measures values.
Humanism makes man his own standard of measure.
However, as with all measuring systems, a standard
must be greater than the value measured. Based on
preponderant ignorance and an egocentric carnal
nature, humanism demotes reason to the simpleton
task of excuse-making in behalf of the rule of appe-
tites, desires, feelings, emotions, and glands.
Because man, hobbled in an ego-centric predicament,
cannot invent criteria greater than himself, the humanist
lacks a predictive capability. Without instinct or trans-
cendent criteria, humanism cannot evaluate options with
foresight and vision for progression and survival. Lack-
ing foresight, man is blind to potential consequence and
is unwittingly committed to mediocrity, collectivism,
averages, and regression - and worse. Humanism is an
unworthy worship.
The void of human ignorance can easily be filled with
a functional faith while not-so-patiently awaiting the
foot-dragging growth of human knowledge and behav-
ior. Faith, initiated by the Creator and revealed and
validated in His Word, the Bible, brings a transcend-
ent standard to man the choice-maker. Other philo-
sophies and religions are man-made, humanism, and
thereby lack what only the Bible has:
1.Transcendent Criteria and
2.Fulfilled Prophetic Validation.
The vision of faith in God and His Word is survival
equipment for today and the future. Only the Creator,
who made us in His own image, is qualified to define
us accurately.
Human is earth's Choicemaker. Psalm 25:12 He is by
nature and nature's God a creature of Choice - and of
Criteria. Psalm 119:30,173 His unique and definitive
characteristic is, and of Right ought to be, the natural
foundation of his environments, institutions, and re-
spectful relations to his fellow-man. Thus, he is orien-
ted to a Freedom whose roots are in the Order of the
universe.
That human institution which is structured on the
principle, "...all men are endowed by their Creator with
...Liberty...," is a system with its roots in the natural
Order of the universe. The opponents of such a system are
necessarily engaged in a losing contest with nature and
nature's God. Biblical principles are still today the
foundation under Western Civilization and the American
way of life. To the advent of a new season we commend the
present generation and the "multitudes in the valley of
decision."
